I was really about to celebrate "Retrospect" for having the Doctor believe in Seven and help her through her trauma while fighting for the truth of her testimony against everybody's skepticism,

Colin A. Ross (guy who believes eyes emit energy beams) seems to be queerphobic? I'm basing this on his one paper in a CSA journal where he says how lesbian alters may originate via male related trauma. He also says how a majority of systems in his practice tend to be bisexual women (didn't comment on it). The part of lesbian alters = men related trauma seems to be 1) Dumb as fuck. Looking for meaning in something that is simple. 2) Queerphobic argument of how sexualities (i.e asexuality) can be tied to trauma and therefore "cured".

Yeah, far right conspiracy theorists are always trying to blame queerness on the Devil, and "women become lesbians because of male rape trauma" is an old homophobic canard.

If this ask is too upsetting then you can leave it alone for a while. Bodily we are an adult. We do not want to intrude in the space of RAMCOA survivors but this has been on our mind for a few months. TWS: Sexual, physical and emotional abuse, BDSM, lots of kinks. We've been abused by two different people in our life, both were minors around our age at the time. The first one was coercive for sure but we don't think he had any sort of complex plan. He would hit and insult us in front of friends, and flashed us a few times when we were alone. Second abuser was our ex, had more access to us due to us dating. They didn't know we have DID and we didn't know at the time either. This is where we suspect possible programming happened; even though they weren't aware of our condition there was a lot of focus on control and different roles. Even before we were officially together they "introduced" us to a lot of BDSM concepts, mainly through writing smut with us. When we started dating, they started actually acting on those concepts though. Almost always they were the "dom/top" while we were the "sub/bottom". Some of us tried to fight back and were punished while others gave in entirely. Which led to us developing a lot of alters dedicated to specific sexual "tasks", so many that I believe we've just barely scratched the surface on member count. The list of stuff they made us do (aside from "traditional" lesbian sex) included breath play, pet play, impact play, and watersports. Just to maintain some privacy I won't say how long this went on for, but we were both (older) minor teens and it lasted long enough to be a clearly established pattern. The persecutors will randomly re-enact trauma, both inwardly and outwardly. Even if we try to resist at first there is NO way out of it. The reenactments will happen and we just have to weather the storm. tldr; Abusive ex used BDSM as a means on control, questioning if we were programmed or mind controlled somehow.

Bare-Bones Programming

Always important to say that we are not experts on your experience, and the information we provide is ultimately for your decision.

Programming has two basic requirements:

The perpetrator(s) intend to control you

By creating self-states or conditioning self-states to cues

The second situation you described sounds like it aligns pretty neatly with that. It’s not as extensive as what a group or a practiced programmer might produce, but there are bits of advice aimed towards survivors that might help you.

Members who have ‘jobs’ or ‘tasks’ or similar are a fair indication of Mind Control, and it might serve to ask who assigned them this task, even if you already have an inkling. Their responses will determine whether they feel the obligation to the perp or themselves.

What to Do

The first step towards decreasing reenactment is guidelines. Establish for every member a set of standards, most negotiable and some required. Maybe y’all agree to clean up your own messes (negotiated and with exceptions) and understand that no member engages sexually before discussion (required).

This sets a clear precedent for what is expected and what members agree to when they interact with one another and the world. Sometimes it’s a matter of not knowing, and with practice the issue is no longer. It’s not likely everything is solved like this, but better to start early.

Next is demonstrating healthy interactions. Many collectives prefer to start outside, to gain experience they don’t already have. A friend is a good goal, someone y’all trust or a few people certain members confide in.

If it’s not too big a trigger, look into consensual BDSM. Start with reading, maybe novels or SFW explanatory websites to avoid too much resemblance to trauma.

Not every collective feels secure enough with each other to do this, but consider having two members with matching preferences to try a safer encounter. One member could also practice on their own if that’s preferable, or with a predetermined safe outside person.

Experiencing more non-abusive (or less abusive, but file that away until you’ve failed with other methods) BDSM— and plain sexuality— provides more data to work off of in the future. A truly healthy scenario may take time, but even lots of breaks and slow-going is better than remaining where you are.

None of these are required, but sexual reenactment is not fun. You could always start with something like sharing (or not sharing) food or belongings to get in some basis of consent without including relationships or sex.

With that or as an alternative, work on shame and disgust. Shame is what you feel for yourself, disgust is what you feel towards another. This could look like positive affirmations, telling or writing down stories you haven’t yet, getting to know members without judgement.

I don’t remember who said it, but there’s a phrase: “Hating having others doesn’t have to mean hating the others”. Not every collective has the phobia of other members, but it is well-documented and a necessity to overcome for teamwork.

Later

There are methods of working through memories and integrating them, maybe to remove barriers between members or fuse them. It helps take steam out of flashbacks and urges, putting a memory together.

It takes trust, though, and a willingness to work with and support other members. Once you make progress with those, you can decide together how to proceed.

The following episode of The Frank Program concerns serious topics, including SA. Though Brain Curds don’t typically include content warnings, this one does. Do not tread lightly.

Daryl arrived at the studio to find Big Mike in the host’s seat.

“Hey,” he asked. “What are you doing in my chair?”

Mike crossed his arms. “I’m hosting the show today.”

“The hell you are!” Daryl slammed his palms on the table. “I’ve been digging around in the gutter to find the worst dirt on Tangent you could imagine. I’m seeing this through.”

“No. You’re not.” Mike sighed. “I am.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m going to take him down.”

Daryl scoffed. “This is ridiculous.”

“Kid, you’ve got your whole life ahead of you. And you know deep down that nothing you’ve found is gonna be enough to take away even a shred of this asshole’s power. You can’t afford to make this kind of enemy.”

“And you can?”

“No.” Mike took a deep breath. “But it’s pretty much over for me, anyway. I might as well do something good to make up for being such a huge piece of shit all my life.”

“Mike…”

“Don’t try to talk me out of it. You don’t know the things I’ve done, the people I’ve hurt. If I can save one vulnerable woman from that creep… just one…” He shook his head. “Hand me your notes.”

Daryl hesitated. But after a short moment, he pulled a folder out from his backpack and placed it in Mike’s outstretched hand.

“Whatever you do, make sure this episode goes out. I don’t care what Frank says, or what Chuck says, you upload it. Even if you have to leak it, you get it out there.”

Daryl nodded. “Of course.”

Mike pointed to the corner of the room. “I dusted off your old spot for you.”

“Hey, everybody!” Mike clapped. “Welcome back to The Frank Program! I don’t even need to introduce you to today’s guest - you all know him! The man, the myth, the legend, Chuck Tangent!”

“Thank you, thank you.” Chuck looked up at the ceiling. “That’s a lovely skylight you have there, is that new?”

“No, it’s been here since you ‘installed’ it.”

He rubbed his chin. “Oh, I get it. Funny.”

“How’s Hailey 2.0?”

“Ever since she failed to be elected President, I’ve been tweaking her programming. Unfortunately, nobody knows how her algorithm works, so -”

“The capital of Iceland is Greenland,” Hailey said through a small speaker on the desk.

Mike raised an eyebrow. “I don’t think that’s right.”

“Yeah. Yeah, it’s a little off.” Chuck cleared his throat. “At this point, I think we’re better off changing reality to match with the things she says rather than the other way around.”

Hailey added another fun fact. “The largest country in Africa is Europe.”

“Uh…” Mike tilted his head. “Does she just say fun facts about geography?”

“She thinks she does, yes.” Chuck patted the speaker like it was her head. “Unfortunately, a server crashed and we lost her old personality, so we’re kinda stuck with it now.”

Daryl looked at Mike with silent intensity. He could feel the kid staring at him.

“So, Chuck…” Mike gulped. “I hear you know another recent guest of ours: Alaska James.”

“Hmph,” Chuck grunted. “You could say that. She’s been a real pain in my neck, recently. I take it she talked to you about VidBo?”

“Only briefly.”

“Well, you can forget whatever she told you. She’s biased against me. I’ll fill you in on the real story. See, I purchased this fledgeling video streamer that no one had heard of and already I’ve turned it around. Everyone is there.”

“Not The Frank Program,” Daryl smirked.

Chuck turned around to look. “Not yet.”

“So,” Mike asked. “She’s a pain in your neck, how?”

“She’s leading all sorts of harassment campaigns against me and Hailey. Claiming discrimination. I’m a firm believer in free speech, but this is too much. Her sort of content just isn’t right for my platform - she and others like her have got to go.”

“How’s she harassing you?”

“Endless complaints. It’s impossible to wade through them all and get to the real problems affecting my users - which, by the way, we are working on. Some videos were auto-removed for expressing opinions, which may not have been the priority of the previous owners, but I think that’s important to fix.”

“Is porn not free speech?”

“No. Free speech is whatever dirty thing that comes out of your mouth, not the dirty things you put in it… among other holes.” He shuddered. “It’s just not appropriate.”

“Speaking of not appropriate, Chuck, I need to ask you about some of her other allegations.”

Tangent scowled. “What else did she tell you?”

“For one thing, she says you didn’t always act as the puritan paragon you present as today.”

Daryl smiled. Mike was using his words verbatim.

Mike continued. “I looked into it. Her story lines up. You and her both attended the 2014 Adult Entertainment Awards.”

“Maybe I did.” Chuck shrugged. “It was a long time ago.”

“It sure was. Miss James was just getting her start in the industry at the time. She was nineteen. According to her, she met you there. You were about forty at the time, were you not?”

“In 2014… I would have been forty or forty-one, yes. Depending on when in the year that was.”

“You were over twice her age. When you told her you could help her with her career, she trusted you. After all, you were a big fish. Even back then, you were one of the hundred most wealthy people in the world. You had more connections than anyone else at that awards show.”

“I suppose I did.”

“So what did you ask for in exchange, Chuck?”

Tangent was silent. He glared at Mike with eyes glazed over.

“I’d like to hear it from you.”

His eyes twitched.

“Alright. According to Alaska James, you invited her up to your suite on the top floor of the hotel. We’ve got eyewitness testimony to confirm this. You were married at the time, weren’t you, Chuck?”

Tangent gritted his teeth.

“So how is it that an upstanding married entrepreneur like yourself thought it was okay to get her drunk and have your way with her?”

“I did no such thing.”

“So what did you do in that hotel room together, Chuck?”

“Call me Mr. Tangent.” He straightened up in his chair. “Is it a crime to have company in a hotel room, Mike? We played board games. I’m horrified you’d think this low of me. Frank will surely be disappointed that you fell for the oldest trick in the book - a woman lying about a man’s impropriety to bring him down to her level. She’s a dirty porn star with a bone to pick. You’re a fool to trust her.”

“Maybe you’ve got a point.” Mike pulled the folder out from under the desk and dropped it on the surface with a thud. “But I don’t think you can explain the seventeen other women who have also stepped forward.”

Tangent growled. “You are making the biggest mistake of your life.”

Mike smiled. “No, I’m not. I already did. This folder is full of your mistakes, Chuck. If you can call them that. And believe me, what you did to Alaska James was sickening, but it’s nothing in comparison to -”

Chaos, total chaos erupted in an instant, all at once. There were so many sounds: door slamming open, gunshot, splatter, Mike went silent, thud, screaming. Daryl realized the screams were coming from his own mouth. Wilfred Buffman stood in the doorway with a smoking pistol, flecks of blood on his cheek. Chuck Tangent held his hands up in the air.

Mike had a bullet wound right through his head.

Shit, sorry re: UO - I didn’t mean the stuff about like trauma bonding and things, more the stuff I’ve seen that got really into describing like sex positions and stuff which, while programming isn’t real, is still pretty disturbing when it’s sometimes *phrased* in the how-to narration format the book uses sometimes. I don’t think anyone would try to use it as a ‘guide’ IRL but knowing the author interrogated a 15-year-old about her sexual trauma (and seems to kind of mine people for details of abuse?) and then doxxed her when she came out in public about it later makes the choice of framing for the (made-up) narration and the level of detail included in how abuse is described deeply unpleasant. I don’t mean it’s a literal manual, I mean that parts of the writing style choose to use that type of language—not that he’s literally recommending people do that, or that trauma survivors shouldn’t have info about how abuse works. But it might be that he lifted it from someplace else that was already using that and didn’t change it. I didn’t realize anyone was saying it’s like. Actually made to teach you how to be a child abuser. Sorry!

Thanks for clarifying! And yeah, I have seen a number of other people talking about Rules of Programming as if it's an abuser's manual so, yeah.

And yeah, there's a very good chance he copied the parts you're thinking of from someplace else. Just about everything I've seen in his books comes from some other source, whether it's from another conspiracy theorist or article on the Internet. I'd be surprised if the man has ever written a truly piece of original content in his life.

We have an alter who can be super problematic, but she can’t help it all that much. She’s 7. She holds a lot of trauma memories around the csa that we faced along with having issues with triggers that throw us into our beta programming.

She actively feels like no one wants her around anymore for her hypersexuality from it and because she breaks down a lot for the memories of us having a miscarriage at a very young age (7).

And when people want to treat her like a child and ask about what’s wrong, it makes her upset as well as even more sad. She’s being treated like a child and then pushed aside because “that couldn’t have happened” (it can happen and it did).

I hate how people push aside stuff that HAS and CAN happen because they're lucky enough to be ignorant. People really need to try to listen and understand. I hope she's alright and is able to push on! <3
